Our Story

Our Story

At Maplecrest, our story is one of God’s faithfulness, family, and fresh beginnings.

We started with a simple dream: to create a Spirit-led
community where people are invited to belong, empowered to heal, and
called to engage—a church that feels like home and moves with the
heartbeat of Jesus.

A Seed Planted

In the summer of 2018, a small group began meeting in a Winnipeg living
room, praying about what God might want to birth. Those early gatherings
were full of hope, prophetic words, and a sense of God’s presence.

On September 9, 2018, Maplecrest Church officially launched with a vision to love God, love people, and live as a family on mission. That first Sunday was filled with worship, prayer, and a prophetic picture of “seed pods exploding with new life”—a sign of multiplication to come.

A Growing Family

In our first year, we gathered at the Holiday Inn South for Sunday services and started building rhythms of worship, teaching, kids ministry, and prayer.
We formed Facilitators meetings, Bible studies, and even a soaking worship night. We hired our first worship leader, began supporting missionaries in Halifax, and saw God start to form a family—not just an event.
As our community grew, we found a new home at Park Theatre in 2020, navigating challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic with livestreams, backyard BBQs, and creative ways to stay connected.

A Defining Moment

Becoming a Family Early in 2022, we entered a season that would deepen and reshape our vision in ways we couldn’t have imagined.

While we were meeting at Park Theatre, my father, Cliff, passed away from cancer. It was one of the most heart-wrenching moments of my life. In the midst of grief, something unexpected happened: I felt drawn into a fast—giving up sugar and dairy. Strangely, it wasn’t hard. It felt like God was carrying me through it, softening my heart in ways I didn’t expect.
As I fasted, a deep longing began to grow within me—a yearning to gather people, to connect on a heart level, and to cultivate a true sense of family.

a true sense of family.

This wasn’t just personal; it began to ripple through our church. The atmosphere changed. We saw not just growth in numbers but a growing warmth, connection, and depth of fellowship.
Around that time, God reminded us of a prophetic dream shared years earlier. In the dream, my father Cliff was blessing Maplecrest in a powerful way. At the time, I didn’t understand how that would happen—but now I see that his passing became a catalyst for a new season of blessing.

This longing for a bigger family also guided us toward the
Vineyard movement, where we found a wider spiritual family to belong
to.

Looking back, it’s clear that God has been weaving together a story of transformation—taking even our pain and using it to reveal His heart for a church that is deeply rooted in His love and connected as a family.
